Invest Using Common Sense, Conventional Wisdom Sucks

Posted on Aug 26, 2012 in Articles, Investment Strategy, Singapore Property Investment by 1 Comment

Here are 4 of my all-time favorites ‘Conventional Wisdoms That Suck’ for the ordinary investor. Ordinary investor – Defined as one who’s holding a full-time 12-hour back breaking job, dependent on a job income, maybe a family to support, have some money to invest (not a million definitely), dreams of becoming wealthy one day – and WANTS badly to get out of the rat race.

There are tons of information out there on how to invest in property: the internet, books, seminars, newspapers, financial ‘gurus’, property ‘experts’ and even your next-door neighbor. Most of these information contain a grain of truth and a lot of misunderstanding.

I would just like to know ‘how did they do “It” ? How did they fool so many people for so long? How did they get them to believe in ‘it’ even after it was proved time and time again to be a bad idea?  I don’t even remember learning “It” from my late multi-millionaire grandfather. I just realized one day how dumb the conventional wisdom is and questioned why everyone is doing “It”.

Beware! ‘No Money Down’ or ‘Little Money Down’ Properties can be more sneaky than a well concealed lizard.

Anyone, including ordinary investors, can own properties easily and will not cost you dearly, either with ‘No Money Down’ or Little Money Down’, so proclaimed by some ‘property experts’ and have people pay ridiculous amount of ‘tuition’ fees in property seminars just to learn from them.

As promised, in this article, ‘No Money Down Properties – Scheme or Scam (Part 2), I am going to share some of these strategies with you for FREE!

But beware! These strategies come with many inherent risks ordinary investors may not fully comprehend.

‘No Money Down’ Properties – Scheme or Scam? (Part 1)

Even if it’s 100% financed, a bad property is a bad property!

There are many myths about doing property deals. Most contain a grain of truth – and a lot of misunderstanding.

Several printed advertisements and mass emails in the past couple of years have been exhorting that one can invest and own properties, with no money down. One advertisement even claims you can make millions of dollars with no money down in just 24 months!

Essentially, the advertisers would run a paid (or most of the time free) seminars to induce participants to sign up for their property courses that come with very hefty fees in the thousands of dollars to learn their ‘Secrets of the Experts’ property strategies that any average investor could apply with success. These advertisers would also sell you overseas properties on a no money down scheme and claimed they come with high returns.

“Real Estate is like a gold-rush; the only people making the money are those who sell the pans”

Real Estate is like a gold-rushPreviously in Part 1 of this series, we covered the ones who sell the pans and make the money from those who bought those pans hoping to find that big gold nugget.

Repeat after me, “Today’s highly inflated real estate market is like a gold-rush; the only people making the money are those who sell the pans.”

In Part 2 of this series, I will go further in explaining why buying an investment property at today’s stratospheric prices is either gambling or simply plain foolishness triggered by panic buying.

Does anyone of you know the famous historical event, ‘The Californian Gold Rush’? This famous event happened during the period of 1848-1855California, USA. When gold was suddenly found, the news had brought more than 300,000 people from all over the United States and even as far away as China and Australia to seek a quick fortune. In what was referred to as the ‘first-world class gold rush’, many eager gold seekers faced hardship and even death by shipwreck, typhoid fever and cholera just to travel there, in hope to make quick fortunes through seeking gold.

“Fools rush in when Angels fear to tread”

There is an ancient wisdom which says, “Fools rush in when Angels fear to tread”.

Take all the fools out of this world and there would not be any fun living in it, or profit. And profit is certainly almost guaranteed…But to wise men only.Is Singapore properties good for investment RIGHT NOW? - Part 1

There is a common language especially in the banking industry when real estate booms and euphoria filled the minds of fools, and led them to become mindless herds of cows being brought to the slaughtering houses even without them knowing.

In booming times like today, the banks are saying to real estate developers, “You bring the dirt, and I’ll bring the money. Let’s make money together out of those fools!”  What a great mutual business relationship.

You bet it doesn’t take a fool to guess who that ‘dirt’ is. Well, who knows? A fool doesn’t realise he is a fool until a bigger fool comes along.
